Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is used extensively as a carrier protein to dilute antibodies and as a general blocking agent in immunoassays and immunodetection protocols. IgG-free BSA, which is also protease-free, alleviates many of the problems that contaminating IgG can cause.
