- The Guinea Pig IL-17A (Interleukin-17A) ELISA is designed for the quantitative measurement of IL-17A in cell culture supernatants from guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) and can also be used to measure IL-17A in a variety of biological sample types reported in the literature, including serum, plasma, whole blood, and tissue lysates from organs such as spleen, lung, lymph nodes, and gut-associated lymphoid tissue. While the kit is optimized for cell culture supernatants, minor modifications to the protocol may be required when measuring IL-17A in other sample types to ensure optimal sensitivity and accuracy, allowing researchers to adjust buffers, antibody concentrations, incubation times, temperatures, and other assay conditions as needed. IL-17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced primarily by Th17 cells, γδ T cells, and innate lymphoid cells and plays a central role in neutrophil recruitment, mucosal immunity, inflammation, and host defense against bacterial and fungal infections. In the guinea pig animal model, IL-17A is widely studied in the context of infectious disease, airway inflammation, vaccine response, and autoimmune research, where its expression reflects Th17-mediated immune activation. Measurement of IL-17A provides valuable insight into immune signaling, inflammatory pathways, disease progression, and the evaluation of immunotherapeutic or vaccine interventions, with reported levels in guinea pigs typically detected at low picogram-per-milliliter concentrations under basal conditions (~10-150 pg/mL in serum or plasma) and increasing during infection, immune stimulation, or inflammatory challenge, depending on sample type and experimental context. The kit contains a capture antibody, detection antibody, and recombinant guinea pig IL-17A protein standard for assay development, and these antibodies have been validated to function together in an ELISA format using the provided standard.
